    • 3) A few questions to search (google) and answer at end of sheet. :-)

Computer Lab for Today

Physics Class Computer Lab: Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015

1) TAKE QUIZ ONLINE FIRST! Only one attempt will be permitted.
  • Please remember academic integrity.
    • You are expected to be honorable and silent, looking at only your own computer, looking at only the quiz and no other site or device, and by taking the quiz you have agreed to neither give nor accept help on the quiz.

2) Do the Torque Web Quest computer lab.
  • If you do not finish in class, finish for HOMEWORK and TURN IN FRIDAY!! (NO LATER than Monday!)

  • *If you are NOT in class today (for Wrestling match, etc. :-)), download, print, and complete this document using PhET sims. Turn in FRIDAY (no later than MONDAY, JAN. 26, 2015!

*DO PART A FIRST AND TURN IT IN BEFORE YOU MOVE ON TO OTHER THINGS! IT IS DUE TODAY! :-)**

A) Please get out a sheet of paper and pencil. Write "Kepler's Laws of Planetary Motion" on top, as well as your name, date, and period.

Answer the following questions as you watch the YouTube clip in the bullet below.
1) What is Kepler's first law? Draw a diagram, and explain clearly in your own words.
2) What is Kepler's second law? Draw a diagram, and explain clearly in your own words.

3) What is Kepler's third law? Draw a diagram, and explain clearly in your own words.
4) What 2 objects are compared in the YouTube clip?
5) Show the formula and work out the math problem example of Kepler's 3rd Law which is shown in the clip.
6) Google or other search...When is the next meteor shower? (Date and time of peak?)
7) What is the name of that meteor shower?
8) How did it get its name?
9) What is the source of those meteors? (What comet, etc.)
10) Ask one question about Astronomy or the universe (write the question down ;-)).
11) Look up the answer to the question and write it down.
TURN THIS IN TODAY!


B) Last Tuesday you should have run the 3 PhET Sims on Simple Harmonic Motion.
If you did NOT have time to run the 3 on Circular Motion, please do that.
  • Circular Motion and Torque (Phet Sim Torque, Ladybug Revolution, Phet Sim Orbits and Planetary Motion)
  • You should be familiar with all 6 of those for a quizzie-poo. :-)

C) By now you should have read and taken notes on Chapters 9-11 this semester.
You should also have been working on your online homework assigned last week!
If you have time left, you may peruse other items on the link below, or work on your online homework. :-)

4) Run the 3 PhET Sims on my Simple Harmonic Motion page! Change variables and play with the simulations. Note the patterns in the motion.
  • Guiding questions: What is meant my the term simple harmonic motion?
  • How is this related to planetary motion and other circular and rotational motions?
5) Homework: Read Chapter 9 tonight
6) New online homework will be posted later today. It will cover various concepts with Rotational and Circular Motion, hence often referred to as Rot. Mot. :-)

1) Finish SCALING activity from previous computer lab day. To receive credit:
  • Make sure YOUR FIRST AND LAST NAME are in the FILE NAME
  • Turn in to CORRECT shared google folder!!
  • This is DUE TODAY!
2) After that, do one of the following if you have not completed this:
  • PRINT your design from West Point Bridge Designer to turn in with bridge which is due TOMORROW!!
  • Finish your online homework on ENERGY ch. 8 due MONDAY!
